There will be no monthly charge for prepaid meters: Minister of Electricity
The Bangladesh government has officially decided to withdraw the monthly rental charge for prepaid electricity meters, addressing long-standing public grievances. Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku confirmed the decision on Sunday (March 29), stating that the move aims to ensure more consumer-friendly services. For years, consumers have protested against the recurring monthly fee, arguing that it was unjust to continue charging after the meter's cost had been recovered. The Minister assured that this decision would be implemented soon, providing much-needed relief to millions of prepaid meter users by reducing their monthly electricity expenses.
