31 government industrial enterprises are in loss: Industry Minister

On Thursday (April 2), Industries Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir informed the National Parliament that 31 state-owned industrial enterprises are currently incurring losses.

In response to a query from MP S.M. Jahangir, the Minister detailed that 14 units under the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC), 12 under the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC), and 5 under the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC) are operating at a deficit.

Furthermore, responding to MP Md. Akhtaruzzaman Mia, he clarified that out of the 15 sugar mills in the country, production and crushing activities remain suspended in 6 units, highlighting the ongoing challenges in the state-run industrial sector.
