46 dead in fire: CID indictment against 22 businessmen of Bailey Road

On Thursday (April 2), the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted a charge sheet against 22 individuals in connection with the devastating fire at the 'Green Cozy Cottage' building on Bailey Road, which claimed 46 lives in February 2024.

The investigation revealed a pattern of gross negligence, including operating 10 restaurants without valid permits, blocking narrow staircases with gas cylinders, and an illegal duplex expansion on the roof.

Crucially, the charge sheet highlights that the main gate of the 'Kacchi Bhai' restaurant was locked during the fire to prevent customers from leaving without paying, trapping them inside the inferno.

Among the accused are restaurant owners, space owners, and officials from Amin Mohammed Foundation, while the deceased building owners were recommended for exemption from the case.
