Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated the Bangladesh U-20 national team for their historic victory over India in the SAFF U-20 Championship final held in Male, Maldives, on April 3, 2026.

After a hard-fought goalless draw in regulation time, the match moved directly to a penalty shootout where Bangladesh triumphed 4-3 to secure their second consecutive title.

Goalkeeper Ismail Mahin set the tone by saving India's opening attempt, while successful conversions from Morshed Ali, Chandan Roy, and Fahim kept the pressure on. Despite a tense moment when Samuel hit the crossbar, India’s Omang Dodong missed his decisive strike, allowing American-expatriate Ronan Sullivan to seal the win with a clinical final shot that sparked massive celebrations among thousands of Bangladeshi supporters at the National Stadium.
