People’s trust in govt, PM biggest achievement in 60 days: Press Secretary

The BNP government’s biggest achievement in its first 60 days is the growing trust of the people in both the administration and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, PM's Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh (Saleh Shibly) said on Saturday.

“Our biggest achievement in these 60 days is that the people of Bangladesh have placed their trust in Tarique Rahman, and he (PM) has trusted the people,” Saleh Shibly told a press conference at the Prime Minister’s Office.

The press conference was organised, marking the completion of two months of the government and to highlight 60 key initiatives taken during the period.

Saleh Shibly said the Prime Minister has remained closely connected with the people and continues to engage with them directly, without giving much importance to his personal security.

He also said public confidence in the government has rebounded in the past two months, especially in the leadership of the Prime Minister.

Referring to the commitments made by the BNP ahead of the election, the Press Secretary said the Prime Minister is making efforts to fulfil all promises given to the people.

He said BNP candidates who contested the parliamentary elections shared the party’s 31-point reform outline widely with voters over the past 2-3 years and sought public support based on those commitments.

“People have the right to know whether their elected representatives are keeping the promises made in the election manifesto,” Saleh Shibly added.

Addressing journalists, he warned about the spread of misinformation, including content made using artificial intelligence, which can sometimes make false information look true.

The Press Secretary urged the mainstream media to act responsibly and maintain credibility so that people can distinguish between accurate information and misleading content on social media.

“False information may confuse people for a short time, but in the end the truth will come out,” he said.

Saleh Shibly expressed hope that responsible journalism will help people make informed decisions and reduce confusion caused by misinformation online.
