The culture of accountability must be ensured in the media and politics: Information Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan emphasized on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, that establishing a culture of accountability in both politics and media is essential for ensuring gender sensitivity in society.

Speaking at the launch of a manual titled "Gender Sensitivity in Journalism" at PIB, the Minister noted that gender awareness is a reflection of collective values.

He reaffirmed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s government supports a free press as a vital tool for holding political power accountable.

Addressing the rise of mobile journalism and social media, Swapan highlighted the global challenge of content creation without clear accountability and assured that the government would work with media stakeholders to reform the sector through dialogue rather than unilateral decisions.
