Holding JS polls possible before Dec: Tarique
BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that holding the next general election is possible before December this year if the government remains sincere in its goal.
“We think that the holding of the national election is possible before December if their (govt) intention remains on the right track,” he said while virtually addressing a programme held in Dhaka on Thursday.
Calling upon the interim government to hold the national election immediately, showing respect to the people’s expectations, he said the interim government has remained in power for the last 10 months, but has not yet announced a schedule for the election.
The state and its economy have been plunged into acute uncertainty, while political instability looms due to the absence of a clear roadmap for the general election, said the BNP leader.
Furthermore, the country is being denied foreign investment, while hundreds of mills and factories are shutting down and many others are on the verge of collapse.
However, the trade bodies are not being given the opportunity to present their problems to the relevant authorities, said the BNP leader.
Claiming that the interim government is out of touch with common people, Tarique said there would be no need for politics if the country were to be run only through administrative file work.
