Dr. Foyez Uddin: The Reflection of His Elder Brother in Sylhet-3 Constituency

Dr. Mohammad Foyez Uddin, MBE, has been working selflessly for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on the international stage for the past 17 years. During this time, he wrote hundreds of letters to the United Nations Secretary-General, the British Prime Minister, the President of the United States, and various international human rights organizations against the fallen autocratic regime. Because of his deep dedication to this noble cause, he has not visited his homeland for 17 years—placing the party’s interests above family and personal comfort.

He has always shown utmost respect to the BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and deep reverence for the party’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman. Above all, he has spent countless sleepless nights working for the party’s cause. Writing letters became his passion—his only goal was to protect and promote the interests of the BNP and its leaders and activists. Every time BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was imprisoned, Dr. Foyez communicated with international leaders and organizations.

When former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was jailed under false charges, Dr. Foyez sent hundreds of letters worldwide to raise awareness about her unjust imprisonment—something few others could achieve.

His elder brother, Professor Dr. Alauddin, was a beloved and respected figure among the people of Sylhet. Dr. Foyez Uddin, MBE, proudly carries his brother’s ideals in his heart.

During the devastating floods of 2004, when the Four-Party Alliance Government was in power, Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia instructed Professor Dr. Md. Alauddin to deliver relief supplies to flood victims. She personally directed the then Finance and Planning Minister, Sylhet’s own leader, M. Saifur Rahman, to contact Dr. Alauddin and ensure immediate relief assistance. Following the directive, Dr. Alauddin rushed to Sylhet, staying in the flood-affected areas for 8–10 days, distributing rice, lentils, dry food, candles, matches, saline, and water purification tablets.

He and his team of medical students also organized free medical camps for an entire month, treating people suffering from waterborne diseases and providing them with free medicine. Sylhet residents still fondly remember Dr. Alauddin for his service. Today, voters in Sylhet-3 see Dr. Foyez Uddin, MBE, as the true reflection of his late elder brother.

In 2006, again on Begum Khaleda Zia’s instruction, Dr. Alauddin brought a team of specialist doctors from Dhaka to conduct weekly free medical camps in every union of Sylhet-3, distributing free medicines to patients. Through this tireless service, he earned a permanent place in the hearts of the people of Sylhet-3. After his passing, Begum Khaleda Zia instructed that his younger brother, UK-based academic Dr. Mohammad Foyez Uddin, MBE, prepare to contest the 2014 parliamentary elections.

Following this direction, Dr. Foyez began his grassroots campaign in every union of Sylhet-3. Ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election in 2026, campaign activities in his support have already begun.

Supporters of Dr. Foyez Uddin report that election campaigns officially started in the first week of September. The second phase—covering markets, upazila centers, and local gatherings—was completed by October 22, and the third phase began on October 23. House meetings, street gatherings, and leaflet distributions of Tarique Rahman’s 31-point program, along with billboards, festoons, and posters, are ongoing.

Seeking the prayers and support of all voters in Sylhet-3, Dr. Foyez Uddin said, “For the past 17 years, I have been working for the development of Sylhet even while living abroad. The love of the people is my greatest strength, and serving them is my life’s mission. Inspired by the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia, and the symbol of youth Tarique Rahman, I aim to build a prosperous, self-reliant, and corruption-free Bangladesh through dedicated service to Sylhet-3.”

According to local sources, among the BNP’s nomination hopefuls for Sylhet-3, Dr. Mohammad Foyez Uddin, MBE, stands out for his talent, competence, and acceptability across all political lines. Despite his growing popularity, his campaign materials have reportedly been vandalized by opponents. His supporters strongly believe that if the BNP nominates Dr. Foyez, victory in Sylhet-3 is all but certain.
