The transfer of power to the interim government should have been transparent: Opposition leader

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, criticized the transition of power by the interim government, labeling it as "opaque."

Speaking at a district Ameer conference in Moghbazar on Friday, April 17, 2026, he alleged that the interim administration orchestrated a pre-planned handover by meeting the current Prime Minister in London.

He claimed that the will of the people was disregarded through "election engineering," ignoring the results of a 70% referendum.

Dr. Rahman further noted that since the opposition's voice is being ignored in Parliament and the judiciary remains constrained, his party feels compelled to take their protests to the streets.
