He said this while visiting the hospital directly from Dhaka at around 2 pm on Wednesday (June 17) and inspecting various wards, emergency departments, outpatient departments and toilets
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock and Tangail Sadar constituency MP Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the mismanagement, irregularities and quality of service at Tangail Medical College Hospital during a surprise visit. He said angrily, ‘The hospital cannot run like this’.
He said this while visiting the hospital directly from Dhaka at around 2 pm on Wednesday (June 17) and inspecting various wards, emergency departments, outpatient departments and toilets.
During this time, the State Minister talked to patients and their relatives and inquired about the overall service, cleanliness, medicine supply and management of the hospital.
During the inspection, the State Minister was extremely angry with the authorities after seeing more than half of the hospital’s 335 doctors, nurses and staff absent. On charges of negligence of duty, the Deputy Director of the hospital, Dr. Md. Kamrul Kibria was immediately ordered to be reprimanded.
At the same time, he instructed to cancel all types of leave for the next 15 to 20 days. At this time, he told the hospital administration, 'If anyone does not want to work here, then they will go somewhere else.'
Meanwhile, when the news of the state minister's arrival spread, patients and their relatives who came to seek medical services surrounded him. They raised various complaints about irregularities, suffering in the hospital, violence by brokers and not getting the desired services.
After hearing these complaints, state minister Sultan Salahuddin Tuku expressed his anger over the current situation of the hospital and said that the situation had reached such a level that it had almost created a situation like declaring it abandoned.
He also expressed his anger over the dirty and unhygienic environment of the hospital's toilets. Later, he sought an explanation from the hospital director Dr. Mohammad Abdul Quddus on various issues and ordered the hospital to be reorganized as soon as possible.
During this time, State Minister Tuku also spoke to the responsible Ansar members. He ordered them to take a strict stance on how drug addicts and outsiders are freely entering the hospital. He also instructed the police and executive magistrates to regularly operate mobile courts to ensure discipline and security in the hospital.
Addressing the director, the State Minister said, 'The purpose of the sudden inspection was to see the real situation. We will improve it, there is space. But the management must be kept in order. If there is an environment of addiction or drug use in the hospital, then it is no longer a hospital. No one is safe in this, patients are also unsafe. This is unacceptable in any way.'
After the inspection, he told reporters, 'There were many complaints of irregularities surrounding Tangail Medical College Hospital. I found the truth of them after coming for a sudden inspection. Improved services will be ensured for the people by eliminating cleanliness and irregularities. Action will be taken against those involved in irregularities.'
During this sudden inspection, State Minister Sultan Salauddin Tuku was accompanied by Tangail Medical College Hospital Director Dr. Mohammad Abdul Quddus, Additional District Magistrate Md. Mahbub Hasan, Private Secretary to the State Minister Md. Abubakar Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) HM Mahbub Rezwan Siddiqui, Upazila Executive Officer Shahin Mia, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department Shambhu Ram Pal and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tangail Sadar Police Station Ruhul Amin.
