Zaima appointed legal officer in UNGA president’s office

According to UN officials, Zaima will handle legal matters in her capacity as a legal officer in the office

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s daughter Zaima Rahman has been appointed as a legal officer in the office of Dr Khalilur Rahman, president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Khalilur Rahman’s office has 40 personnel, including six Bangladeshis.

Bangladeshi diplomat Md Abdul Alim will serve as deputy chief of the office, while Moazzem Hossain will work as an adviser and administrative assistant. Mafizul Islam has been appointed senior adviser for Information, Artificial Intelligence and Strategic Foresight.

Zakir Ahmed will serve as senior adviser on Sustainable Development and Climate Change, while Md Rafiqul Alam Molla will be senior adviser on Countries with Special Needs.

According to UN officials, Zaima will handle legal matters in her capacity as a legal officer in the office.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman assumed the presidency of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on 8 September.

Zaima studied law at Queen Mary University of London. She later completed the Bar-at-Law in the United Kingdom. In June 2026, she also passed the first-stage examination for enrolment as a lawyer with the Bangladesh Bar Council.
