Chairman candidate's son among 10 arrested with arms as Shailkupa UZ goes to polls today

A few hours before of the bi-polls, Shailkupa upazila parishad chairman candidate’s son and nine others have been arrested by the Executive Magistrate Saturday evening.

Hasib Ahmed, son of candidate MA Hakim Ahmed, and his associates were arrested with an unauthorised pistol, seven gears knife, 100 grams of hemp, three Chinese axe and two steel-made sticks from the old bridge on Kumar River in Shailkupa town at about 7.00 pm. The arrestees were handed over to Shailkupa Police Station.

Nine others are identified as Forkan Rahman, Mozahid Hossain, Ihsanul Islam, Musa, Ashraf Hossain, Imon, Masum Billah, Ruman and Asgar.

Shailkupa OC Amirul Islam said BGB personnel led by an executive magistrate conducted drives in Shailkupa town and other parts to maintain law and order ahead of the polls and made the arrests.

“A Magistrate arrested 10 persons from a microbus. Some weapons were recovered from the same microbus. We will produce the arrestees to Jhenaidah court,” he said.   

During searching a black microbus on the bridge, they arrested the ten including Hasib Ahmed, son of candidate MA Hakim Ahmed and seized the fire arms, seven gear knife and other weapons. Executive Magistrate Md Nurunnabi led the team.
