Police arrest a ‘romance scammer’ who poses him as OC

Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a ‘romance scammer’ who swindled at least 771 women after taking their objectionable photos and videos impersonating him as Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tejgaon Police Station Mohammad Mohsin.

A police team of Tejgaon Police Station arrested Mohammad Anwar Hossain, 30, from Islam Printing Press at Das Bakery intersection on Station Road in Gaibandha Sadar on Friday.

Liton Kumar Saha, joint commissioner (crime) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), briefed the media at the DMP media centre in the capital Dhaka on Saturday noon.

Not only in the guise of the police officer, the arrestee also harassed many women in different ways by impersonating him as a government official, lawmaker, model and many more, he said.

The police officer said that the arrestee studied up to Class Five, but he was very skilled in technology.

He opened different social media accounts by using photos of police officers, secretaries, parliament members, ministers and even the president of the country, and by doing so, Anwar cheated women.

Talking to reporters, OC Mohsin said that some women came to his office when he was an OC at Mirpur Model Police Station last year and asked him why he was not talking to them in the daytime.

He said that he was astonished by their questions and came to know that somebody was cheating these women posing as him (OC).

Later, he filed a GD with Mirpur Model Police Station in this regard on 5 September last year.

On 22 January this year, Mohsin filed a case with Tejgaon Police Station and Anwar was arrested in this connection.
