Breast Cancer: Country sees 6,783 deaths, counts over 13,000 cases yearly


More than 13,000 women in the country are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

In the same period of time, some 6,783 deaths are recorded. Among the women cancer patents, some 19 percent suffer from breast cancer.    

International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) made this revelation at a seminar on breast cancer ‘CME on Breast Imaging and Intervention’ held at the classroom of the Radiology and Imaging Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) today (Thursday).

Speakers at the seminar said it is possible to cure breast cancer. Women who are at risk should undergo regular health examination, from the age of 20 a should examine her breast by herself and women over 35 years can get rid of this disease, if they come under mammographic screening.
