FT ONLINE

The fourth span of the long-awaited Padma Bridge will be moved into position between pillars 40 and 41 this week, Executive Engineer of the project said.

The installation of the fourth span will increase the completed length of the bridge to 600 metres.

Padma Bridge Project Manager and Executive Engineer (main bridge) Dewan Md Abdul Quader said the necessary technical measures for the installation have already been completed.

The fourth span of the Bridge will be set up on pillars 40 and 41 on May 14/15, he added.

The first span of the Padma Bridge was installed atop pillars no 37 and 38 at the Janjira point of Shariatpur on October 7 last year. The second span was installed on pillars 38 and 39 on January 23.

This was followed by installation of the 3rd span on Pillars 39 and 40 on March 11.

Once completed, the Padma Bridge will stand on 42 pillars, including two transition pillars on land, with a total length of 6.15km.

The bridge, which will connect the country’s southern region to the capital, will hugely boost communications and trade and economic activities.
