CA pays homage to language heroes
Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, paid rich tribute by placing flowers to the martyrs of the historic Language Movement marking the Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day at National Martyrs' Monument.
He proceeded to the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar at a slow pace while the historic immortal song on Amar Ekushey "Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February . . . Ami Ki Bhulitey Pari?" was being played.
Prof Yunus stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the language heroes. After placing flowers, the chief advisor left the Shaheed Minar.
Earlier, at 12:02 PM, the Head of State laid a wreath at the Central Shaheed Minar. Then, he stood in silence for a while to pay deep respect to the memory of the language heroes. He left the Shaheed Minar at 12:03 PM.
President Md. Shahabuddin entered the Shaheed Minar at 11:59 pm. At that time, the President was welcomed by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan and Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed.
Then, members of the Advisory Council of the Interim Government, ambassadors from various countries, and Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed paid their respects.
Besides, the Chief Election Commissioner, the chiefs of the three services, and the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University paid tribute to the martyrs by placing flowers at the Shaheed Minar.
Later, leaders and activists of language soldiers, various political parties, educational institutions, social and cultural organizations placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar and paid their respects.
After that, the Shaheed Minar was opened to the public when hundreds of people from all walks of life walked barefoot with flowers in their hands and humming "Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February" to recall the supreme sacrifice of the language heroes on this day in 1952.
Earlier, people from different walks of life waited at the Palashi border to pay their respects at the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of International Mother Language Day from 11 pm.
On the occasion of Ekushey February, the streets and walls of the central Shaheed Minar and Dhaka University area have been decorated with colorful decorations. Fine arts students have worked day and night to depict various languages of protest with paint and ink. The altar of Shaheed Minar, the black streets, and the walls are bursting with colorful lights.
