Major reshuffle in police: 124 top officials transferred

The government has transferred 124 top police officials, including 101 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) as part of its mission to ensure a level playing field in police administration across the country.

The Police Headquarters issued two separate notifications on Monday, signed by Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Khandaker Shamima Yesmin on behalf of Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, enforcing the transfers with immediate effect.

The notifications stated that the top police officials were posted to different units of the police department across the country for the sake of law and order.

The country’s law and order situation appears to be deteriorating, with serious crimes such as murder, snatching and robbery taking place frequently in different parts of the country, both day and night.

The criminal offences are increasing in a rapid trend in the country due to the inaction of the members of different law enforcement agencies after the 5 August changeover.

To address the situation, the interim government has implemented pragmatic measures including transferring and placing top police officials on Office on Special Duty (OSD).

On 27 February, the government transferred police officials, including 19 additional deputy inspector generals (DIGs), 33 police superintendents and an additional superintendent of police to make its mission successful.

Earlier on 25 February, Additional Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Alim Mahmud and 82 police officers were made OSD.

Apart from the AIGP, 13 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), 49 Additional DIGs, and 19 Superintendents of Police were made OSD due to their controversial roles while on duty.
