Ramiz Sikder is the Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT. The nephew of former State Minister for Social Welfare Dr. Mozammel Haque, a ally of the fallen fascist Awami League government, is currently working in the Tangail Customs Division.

The official is accused of amassing a fortune worth hundreds of crores of taka through bribery and corruption.

Ramiz Sikder, from Charkhali village in Zianagar upazila of Pirojpur district, grew up in his uncle's house in Kachubunia, Bagerhat. He joined the customs department as a cashier and was promoted to the post of assistant commissioner, and his fortune also turned around. Ramiz Sikder has built an expensive house worth several crores of taka in Charkhali village of Pirojpur, along with assets worth several crores of taka. The amount of money spent on the construction of the house, which is fully equipped with foreign fittings, is not possible for a Ramiz Sikder to earn even in his entire working life; this is what the common people of Charkhali village are claiming.

An uncle of Ramiz Sikder said, "Ramiz Sikder and his brother Monir Sikder, who works in the Khulna division of the Ministry of Social Welfare, have purchased the properties of many in our family. The two brothers have purchased the properties of many in the area in their own names. Basically, crores of taka of properties have been purchased in the area with the money earned by Ramiz Sikder."

Ramiz Sikder has bought several acres of property not only in Charkhali village in Pirojpur, but also in the area of his uncle's house in Kachubunia, Bagerhat.

Ramiz Sikder is known as a philanthropist in Kachubunia. Obaidullah, a van driver from Kachubunia village, said, "He is a very big customs official. He has purchased a lot of property in the area."

According to the information received during the initial investigation, Ramiz Sikder has bought a 10-katha plot worth Tk 5 crore on VIP Road in Bagerhat. He has a flat worth Tk 2.5 crore in a luxurious apartment of Eastern Housing next to Viqarunnesa Noon College in Siddheshwari, Dhaka. His wife Rupali works in the bank.

His uncle told this reporter that Ramiz Sikder has a house in Dhaka. He has also visited the house. The only question the locals have is what is the source of income of Commissioner Ramiz Sikder, who was promoted from cashier to become a commissioner? It is also known that he has assets and bank balances in his name and name; which will come out in the investigation of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

People like Ramiz Sikder, who worked in the country's driving force, turned the wheel of their own fortune by playing the country's twelve cards and becoming owners of hundreds of crores of taka. How are hundreds of Ramiz Sikders born under the noses of the Anti-Corruption Commission and intelligence agencies?

Hundreds of such Ramiz Sikdars are working in the NBR, the main driving force of the country's economy, and are pushing the country towards a delicate situation.

A special investigation by the “The Finance Today” investigative team has uncovered a list of deeds and illegal assets of numerous corrupt officials. List of illegal assets worth hundreds of crores of taka of several top members of the National Board of Revenue
