Authorities hold urgent meeting to ensure a safe, smooth Eid journey
An urgent meeting was held on Tuesday among the police, BRTA, transport owners and workers to facilitate a safe and smooth journey ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.
As part of a series of initiatives, the meeting took place at Sayedabad Bus Terminal, bringing together representatives from the Police Department, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), transport owners and workers.
Speakers at the meeting included workers’ leader Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, also coordinator of Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, an associate body of BNP, Additional Commissioner of Police Sarwar Hossain, DC (Wari) of the Traffic Department Abul Kalam Azad, transport owners' association leaders Saiful Islam and Abdul Baten and Transport Workers' Federation representatives Abdur Rahim Baksh and Humayun Kabir Khan.
The participants were briefed on decisions made at an inter-ministerial meeting to place key areas of Dhaka city, including Mohakhali, Gabtoli, Sayedabad, Gulistan, Fulbaria, Sadarghat Launch Terminal and Kamalapur Railway Station, under CCTV surveillance and electronic monitoring to ensure a smooth Eid journey.
It was also highlighted that all bus terminals in Dhaka city have urgently been brought under this monitoring system ahead of the Eid.
During the meeting, police, transport owners and workers responsible for terminal management were urged to take stronger measures against doping gangs, “Malam” parties, ticket black marketing, theft, robbery, road accidents and extortion to ensure the safety of women passengers.
