Biman flight makes emergency landing at Dhaka airport

A Singapore-bound flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka shortly after take-off on Friday morning following reported engine trouble.

The incident happened when Flight BG584, operated by a Boeing 737-800, took off at 8:38 am and began experiencing engine trouble after climbing to an altitude of around 2,500 feet. The captain then decided to return to Dhaka and landed the aircraft safely at 8:59 am.

“There were 154 passengers and seven crew members on board. All are safe and unharmed,” said Mahmudul Hasan, spokesperson for the executive director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

He informed that the airport officials conducted an inspection, suspecting a bird strike, but found no evidence of any foreign object or bird remains.

A technical review is underway, and further decisions regarding the flight will be made based on the assessment, said the airport authorities.
