Journalist’s body found hanging from tree in Cox’s Bazar


The police discovered a journalist’s body hanging from a tree in a Jhau forest near the beach in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday morning.

The deceased, Mohammad Amin, 23, a resident of the district’s Ukhiya upazila, was the Ukhiya correspondent of Amar Praner Bangladesh newspaper.

He was the admin of a Facebook page called Ukhiya News and also worked at the Friendship Field Hospital in the Rohingya camp.

The body was found around 9:15am and sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Elias Khan said locals informed the police after seeing the body hanging with a nylon rope from a tree.

The body bore no injury marks, while his sandals were found on the sand below, the OC said.

Besides, a bus ticket from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar scheduled for 9:20pm on Wednesday was found in his pocket, he said, adding that the police were investigating the death.

Meanwhile, local journalists, NGO workers, and local people urged authorities to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death.
