Tangail's SP Mizanur succeed in curbing crime

The police tried to turn around after the Hasina government fell in the mass uprising of students and the public. But due to financial crisis, the investigation of the case is being severely hampered. Moreover, due to the shortage of manpower in various police stations and units, they have to do more duty than the scheduled time.

After August 5, 2024, the police are continuing their activities to provide the desired services to the people. In order to further accelerate the operational activities of the Bangladesh Police, all the police members, including the officers-in-charge, working in 12 police stations of Tangail, are working tirelessly day and night to restore the image of the police force and garner positive praise from the people. Separate teams have also been formed to carry out anti-drug operations and arrest criminals. Inter-district robbers have been arrested and sent to jail.

Tangail District's Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Mizanur Rahman has already set an example for the people of Tangail in controlling law and order with his subordinate officers and forces. He has brought back discipline in all the relevant departments including 12 police stations of Tangail. In an exclusive conversation with this reporter, Tangail Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman expressed the scope and opinion of his work.

The Superintendent of Police said, "Due to my sincere efforts, victims are no longer harassed by going to the police station like before. They don't even have to pay money to the police to get the desired service."

SP Mizanur Rahman also said that there have been no complaints of any police officer or member being dismissed or closed for criminal or immoral acts.

This brave police officer did not hesitate to spontaneously arrest several leaders of the anti-discrimination movement on charges of extortion. He also said that stronger action will be taken in the future.

He has arrested and sent out the banned Chhatra League leaders accused in the student-public murder case in Tangail, the stronghold of Awami League. He has declared zero tolerance against drugs. He has successfully faced the challenge of killing robbers. He is also vocal about stopping anti-social activities in residential hotels, super hostels and residential messes. He is using DB police to eradicate anti-social activities and terrorism. He has given strict instructions to the Highway Police to prevent robberies on the roads at night. Moreover, this brave police officer has instructed the police station OCs to eradicate terrorism in their respective police stations and arrest those involved in crimes.

SP Mizanur Rahman consults his senior officers before every task. Under his leadership, all the police members of 12 police stations are working together to improve the law and order situation. This efficient police superintendent has already made his mark on the hearts of the people of Tangail.

Mizanur Rahman said, "After August 5, 2024, the police force has been struggling to manage the law and order situation. We have been working with challenges every moment. Under the smart leadership and prudence of the IGP, and the proper guidance of the Dhaka Range DIG, the officers and police members of every police station have patiently and tirelessly worked to bring the law and order situation in Tangail under control. The Tangail District Police has been praised by the higher echelons of the police, including the IGP, especially for controlling and arresting inter-district robbers."

Talking to the reporter, SP Mizan said, the police had to work hard to ensure the security of the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway from the clutches of two inter-district robbers. Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman completed this difficult task through tireless work, proper use of advanced technology and comprehensive planning in collaboration with talented police members.

After the fall of the fascist Hasina government, Mizanur Rahman joined Tangail as the Superintendent of Police on January 4, 2025. It was difficult to restore the morale of the almost fragile police force. In the meantime, one after another robbery incidents were organized on the highway. As a result, it became difficult to protect the image of the police. Taking all these as challenges, the Superintendent of Police worked with patience and dedication.

At least 12 sensational robbery cases were recorded in different police stations of Tangail from January to September last year. In these cases, the police arrested 112 robbers, including members of an inter-district robbery gang. Of them, 29 gave confessional statements in court. The detective police played an important role behind this success.

Among the discussed robbery incidents, five people were arrested in connection with the robbery of a moving bus and the molestation of female bus passengers in Mirzapur on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Setu highway. Two of them gave confessional statements in court. Police arrested nine members of an inter-district robbery gang in the case of a major robbery at a BNP leader's house in Madhupur, and three main accused in the robbery of a truck loaded with 75 drums of oil in Mirzapur on the highway. Six people were arrested along with weapons in the case of robbing 75 lakh taka from a cattle trader before Eid-ul-Fitr in the Banshoil area of Mirzapur. At the same time, police recovered about three lakh taka in cash. Meanwhile, robbers looted everything belonging to bus passengers in Sadar upazila on the highway. Police arrested three people in this incident. And in the case of a robbery of a truck loaded with cows in Mirzapur, the detective police arrested four robbers from Gendaria, Dhaka. Thus, a long-standing inter-district robbery gang on the highway was destroyed. The Superintendent of Police said that this highway is no longer safe for robbers.

Dhaka Division Range DIG Rezaul Karim Mallick said, "I have continued my activities with the aim of establishing a fascist-free Bangladesh. The police are on alert so that no fascist can awaken in Bangladesh again. I am continuing all my activities despite the bloodshed. The law enforcement agencies are working as per the government's instructions."

He said that the main job of the police is to maintain law and order in the country. The Superintendents of Police of each district are performing their duties with great skill and determination.
