CA discusses election preparations with chiefs of armed forces

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has instructed the chiefs of the three armed forces to take all necessary measures to ensure foolproof security and a peaceful environment during the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, scheduled for the first half of February.

The directive came during a meeting held on Saturday evening at 7pm at the state guesthouse Jamuna, where Chief of Army Staff General Waker-uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan met with the chief adviser.

National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman was also present at the meeting, according to CA Press Wing.

During the discussion, Prof Yunus praised the members of the armed forces for their tireless efforts in maintaining national security and law and order over the past 15 months.

He emphasised that the armed forces would play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and stable environment for the upcoming election.

“The interim government is committed to holding a free, fair, neutral, peaceful, and festive election in the first half of February,” the chief adviser said.

The three service chiefs briefed the chief adviser on the ongoing preparations by the military for election security operations.

According to the meeting’s discussion, around 90,000 army personnel, 2,500 navy members, and 1,500 air force personnel will be deployed across the country during the polls, while each upazila will have one company of army personnel assigned to maintain order.

During the meeting, the armed forces chiefs also invited the chief adviser to attend the Armed Forces Day celebration scheduled for 21 November.
