Ex-President Abdul Hamid’s home vandalised in Kishoreganj
The home of former president Md Abdul Hamid in Kishoreganj’s Mithamoin Upazila was attacked and vandalised late on Monday during a celebratory procession allegedly brought out by local BNP activists.
The incident took place around 11pm in Kamalpur village. Doors, windows and furniture were smashed. However, no casualties were reported as no one was home at the time.
Mithamoin Police Station Sub-Inspector Al Momen confirmed the attack, saying police rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the report. “The situation was brought under control promptly,” he said.
According to police and local witnesses, the upazila unit of the BNP organised a procession from Mithamoin Bazar to celebrate the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict sentencing ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death in a case over crimes against humanity linked to the July Uprising. Around 60–70 BNP leaders and activists reportedly joined the night-time procession.
Witnesses said several participants broke through the main entrance of Hamid’s residence before vandalising windows, furniture and other belongings inside. Police and Army personnel were deployed in the area shortly after the attack.
SI Momen said no case had been filed over the incident and no arrests were made as of Tuesday.
