Another dengue patient dies in Barishal


A man died of dengue at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in the district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 38, son of Shahjahan Mia of Mehendiganj upazila of the district.

SBMCH Director Dr Bakir Hossain said Monir was hospitalised after being diagnosed with dengue on August 18. He died around 5am.

At least 1,626 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals in 24 hours till 8am on Wednesday. Of the new cases, 711 were recorded in Dhaka.

Currently, 6,278 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals and clinics, according to the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services. 

Since the beginning of this year, 57,995 patients infected with dengue were hospitalised and 51,670 of them were discharged after treatment.

The government has so far confirmed the deaths of 47 people but unofficial estimates suggest the death toll is much higher.
