Inflation may decline to 7pc by Jun '25: Mansur

Governor of the Bangladesh Bank Dr Ahsan H Mansur stated on Thursday that curbing inflation to a tolerable level would require at least a year, noting it is expected to decline to 7 percent by June 2025.

He made the remark at a seminar organised by BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage at a hotel in the capital.

"It will be possible to reduce inflation to 5 percent in the fiscal year 2025-26," he said.

Mansur attributed the soaring prices of potatoes and onions to production delays caused by floods in August and September.

The central bank governor also hinted that the prices of the two key kitchen items would come down to Tk 30-35 a kg within the next couple of months. He acknowledged that there are problems in transporting goods.

The country's inflation rate remains persistently high, standing at 11.38 percent on a point-to-point basis in November, while food inflation was recorded at 13.8 percent that month.
