70pc people want to vote for BNP: Survey

As high as 70% of people intend to cast their ballots for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, according to a survey report.

The survey was conducted by the private organisation Eminence Associates for Social Development (EASD) from 20 December last year to 1 January this year.

Presenting the findings at the KIB auditorium in Dhaka on Monday, EASD Chief Executive Officer Shamim Haider Talukder said opinions were collected in person from 20,495 respondents across all 300 constituencies nationwide.

In response to the question of whom they would vote for in the upcoming polls, 70% of respondents said they would vote for the BNP, while 19% would vote for the Jamaat-e-Islami, he said.

Besides, 2.06% of people want to cast ballots for the National Citizen Party (NCP) and 5% for other parties, Shamim said, adding that 0.2% of respondents said they would not vote in the election.

In response to the question of which party would form the next government, 77% of respondents believe the BNP will win the polls and form the government, while 17% expressed support for the Jamaat and slightly over 1% for the NCP, according to the findings.

The parliamentary election and the referendum on the July National Charter are scheduled to be held on the same day, on 12 February.
