If the referendum is canceled, the elected parliament will face legal threats: Shishir Monir

Jamaat-e-Islami lawyer and central committee member Shishir Monir stated on Monday (March 30) that there is no legal scope to automatically annul the recent referendum.

Speaking to reporters at the High Court, he warned that if the referendum is canceled, the legality of the currently elected Parliament would also face a direct threat, as both were conducted under the same electoral framework.

Monir protested the cancellation of approximately 20 ordinances, including those related to the Commission on Disappearances and Supreme Court judge appointments.

He further alleged that while all political parties previously reached a consensus on 30 key issues within the National Consensus Commission formed by the interim government, the BNP is now hesitating to uphold those agreements.
