US, BD partner to help over 1,500 Americans return home


The US Department of State and US Embassy in Dhaka helped over 1,500 Americans and their family members return to the United States on four chartered flights as part of our response to the global challenge of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The US Embassy continues to explore options for American citizens to depart Bangladesh, according to an alert message styled Information on flights released on its website on Saturday.

“Should potential travel opportunities arise, and if you would like to receive information about these opportunities, please register in the new sign-up form the US embassy in Dhaka said.

“Please note that registering at this link does not guarantee that you will be contacted or receive a seat on any chartered flight”, it further said.

As of June 14, 2020, Bangladesh reported 84,379 confirmed cases of Covid-19 within its borders. Among these, 17,828 have recovered and there have been 1,139 deaths, the statement stated.

The Government of Bangladesh announced a general holiday period from March 26 – May 30 during which most Bangladeshi government offices and private sector organisations were closed, the embassy added.
