Cox’s Bazar to get country’s first 60MW wind farm


Bangladesh is all set to start the construction of its first 60-megawatt wind power plant project at Cox's Bazar’s Khuruskul.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the project by laying its foundation stone on Thursday.

“In addition to it, there is another project on the cards to set up a 50MW wind power plant at Inani of Cox's Bazar,” the state minister said after the inauguration.

Project Director Engineer Mukit Alam Khan said the project will cost around Rs 900 crore and is expected to be completed by next the December.

The electricity generated from this project will be connected to the national grid to meet the demand of Cox's Bazar, he added.

The project is being implemented by US DK Green Energy Ltd.

Cox's Bazar-3 parliamentarian Saimum Sarwar Kamal and Power and Energy Secretary Habibur Rahman were special guests at the inauguration programme.

BPDB Chairman Mahbubur Rahman and other senior officials were also present at the event.
