India’s advice on elections ‘unacceptable’: Foreign Adviser

India’s repeated advices on ensuring inclusiveness in the upcoming general elections in Bangladesh are “unacceptable” as the neighbouring country made no comment during the past three rigged elections, said Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain on Wednesday.

The Indian government labelled the last three widely rejected elections under the Awami League regime as Bangladesh’s “internal issue” and declined to make any comment, the adviser told reporters at the Foreign Ministry office.

After 15 years of autocracy, Bangladesh is set to hold credible elections in a very congenial environment, but now, India is advising Bangladeshi policymakers on elections, which “to me is unacceptable,” Touhid said.

“We are moving towards credible elections in Bangladesh, and for this don’t need advice from neighbouring countries,” he added.
