Accept the referendum verdict, otherwise there will be tragic consequences: Golam Parwar
The Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Mia Golam Porwar, urged the government on Monday, April 13, 2026, to respect the mandate of the recent referendum involving 50 million voters.
Speaking at a seminar in Dhaka, he warned that denying the public's will would lead to a severe national crisis, drawing parallels between current government actions and past authoritarian regimes.
Porwar criticized the silencing of opposition voices in Parliament and highlighted the country's worsening economic situation, noting that the government had borrowed 42,000 crore BDT from banks within just 45 days of taking office.
He demanded the immediate legal validation of the Reform Assembly to prevent further instability.
