President urges politicians to avoid violence, engage in dialogue

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday urged all political parties to avoid clashes and pursue dialogue and mutual understanding for the greater good of the country.

He made the remarks at a mass rally at Thakurgaon Government Boys’ School, marking his first visit to his ancestral village since assuming office as head of state. Thousands of people reportedly attended the rally.

"We have reclaimed democracy after a lot of sacrifices. We do not wish to see bloodshed anymore... we do not wish to lose our hard-won democracy once again,” the President said.

He expressed hope for a society that upholds the country’s independence, sovereignty and democratic principles, preserves communal harmony and mutual understanding, and creates more employment opportunities to improve people’s well-being.

Mirza Fakhrul also urged the youth to become self-employed rather than simply chase jobs and contractual work, calling on them to contribute actively and voluntarily to build a better society.

The president highlighted ongoing projects to construct a medical college, a public university and an airport in Thakurgaon.
