Human chain in Khulna demands climate justice

The 29th edition of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) is currently underway in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

This year’s conference focuses on strengthening international commitments to achieve global peace and climate resilience.

In solidarity with this global call, the Climate Justice Forum – Khulna organized a human chain on Satarday at Shibbari Square in Khulna City, with participation from people across various social and professional backgrounds.

The event emphasized the demand for "Establishing Climate Justice."

Speakers at the human chain stressed the need to ensure a fair allocation of climate funds for vulnerable populations in Bangladesh and other nations at risk from climate change.

They also urged major industrialized countries, the primary emitters of greenhouse gases, to take immediate measures to reduce carbon emissions and limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C.

Notable speakers included Professor Dr. Mujibur Rahman, Head of the Environmental Science Discipline at Khulna University and Chairman of the Climate Justice Forum – Khulna; Professor Dr. Tushar Kanti Roy of the Urban and Regional Planning Department at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET); Shamima Sultana Shilu, Executive Director of the Human Service and Social Development Organization (MSSUS); and Mahabubur Rahman, Head of Program and Operations at AOSED.
