Lending agencies can’t avoid responsibility of corruption: Anisuzzaman

Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, special assistant to the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance, has criticised lending agencies for disbursing loans to Bangladesh, despite information of corruption.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other lending agencies disbursed loans to Bangladesh without imposing any condition of good governance, said the government official, raising a questing why they did this despite having information of corruption.

They can no longer avoid the responsibilities of the then government indulgence in all-out corruption, he said while, talking to reporters at a seminar in Dhaka, on Saturday.

He also slammed the IMF, saying that this credit organisation is now imposing many conditions when the country is running under the interim management.

“I am still uninformed about that any country that has managed to avoid economic collapse with a loan from the IMF,” he said, adding that the country has been pushed towards an economic catastrophe deliberately.

The country would have faced a critical juncture had the student-people mass upsurge not taken place in the country, he said.
